Benedict attended prestigious Harrow School on an Arts scholarship, where he was involved in many Shakespearean plays. Cumberbatch made his acting debut in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” when he was 12.

Benedict took a gap year before college to volunteer as an English teacher at a Tibetan monastery in India. Benedict then graduated from the University of Manchester, where he majored in Drama. From there, Cumberbatch went ahead to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
