Eva Kaili was born in Thessaloniki, in October 26, 1978 to Alexandros Kailis who is a General Director at the Central Macedonia Regional Government, a Mechanical and Electrical engineer born in Istanbul. Eva Kaili mother, Maria Ignatiadou, of Asia Minor Greek descent, grew up in Imathia. Eva Kaili has a younger sister names Mantalena who is a lawyer.

Eva Kaili studied in the Polytechnic of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to be an Architect Engineer. Eva Kaili did her Master of Arts at University of Piraeus, is on International and European Studies. Eva Kaili is a doctoral candidate of Political Economy on Practical responses to Crisis. Eva Kaili did a Principal economics course of Harvard and studied at the Greek School of Journalism.

Before her political career, Eva Kaili was a known newscaster at Mega Channel from 2004 until 2007. Eva Kaili was a consultant on Communication Strategy and Public and Foreign Affairs of Greek Pharmaceutical companies and one of the biggest Media Groups 2012-2014.

Eva Kaili political career:

In 1992, Eva Kaili joined the PASOK Youth. In 2001, Eva Kaili was President of the School of Architecture Students’ Association and by 2002, Eva Kaili was already the youngest member to be elected in the Thessaloniki City Council.

Eva Kaili was known for being the youngest member of European Parliament with the PASOK party. 

In the 2004 national elections, Eva was the youngest candidate standing. In the 2007 national elections, she was elected as a member of the Hellenic Parliament for the first district of Thessaloniki. At the time, Eva Kaili was the youngest Member of Parliament with the PASOK party. She retained her seat in the 2009 national elections until 2012.’

During her term in Parliament, Kaili was a member of the following Parliamentary Committees: Standing Committee on Cultural and Educational Affairs, Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs, and Special Permanent Committee of Greeks Abroad. She has represented Greece in conferences and special missions abroad.

Eva Kaili is a  Member of the European Parliament since 2014 and a member of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in Europe. Eva is Vice President for Innovation Strategy, ICT, Technology, Foresight, Businesses, ESG and CSR, UN, WTO, OECD and Middle East.

Eva Kaili served as the first woman Chair of the European Parliament’s Science and Technology Options Assessment body (STOA) 2017-2022, Chair of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence (C4AI), and Chair of the Delegation for relations with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (DNAT) 2014-2019.

She has been serving on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON), and the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL). Eva Kaili is an alternate member on the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) and on Delegation for relations with the Arabian Peninsula (DARP).

Eva Kaili became Vice President of the European Parliament on 18th January 2022 after being elected on the first round of votes by 454 votes. Eva Kaili became the first Greek woman from S&D elected to the post, since 2014. Politico referred to her as one of the Brussels Tech Gang, influencing Digital and Tech Policy.
