HBO is going ot produce a series adaptation of The Last of Us.
The Last of Us is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Players control Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie, across a post-apocalyptic United States.
The premium cable company has picked up the drama based on the hugely popular video game franchise from Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and the game’s writer and creative director, Neil Druckmann. HBO and Sony Pictures TV are producing along with PlayStation Productions, Word Games and game developer Naughty Dog.
“Craig and Neil are visionaries in a league of their own,” said HBO Programming executive vp Francesca Orsi. “With them at the helm alongside the incomparable Carolyn Strauss, this series is sure to resonate with both die-hard fans of The Last of Us games and newcomers to this genre-defining saga. The Last of Us series is set 20 years after the destruction of modern civilization. It focuses on Joel who survived an apocaplypse, hired to smuggle a 14-year-old girl named Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone. The seemingly small job becomes a brutal journey as they come to depend on each other for survival.

The Last of Us isthe latest video game franchise to get produced as the drama series by HBO. Showtime is also at work on a series based on Halo, which Will be released sometime in2021.
Mazin and Druckmann executive produce The Last of Us with Carolyn Strauss (Chernobyl, Game of Thrones), Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells and PlayStation Productions’ Qizilbash and Carter Swan. Johan Renck (Chernobyl) was set to direct the pilot but had to drop out because of a scheduling conflict.
