Kartiki Gonsalves was born on November 2, 1986, to Timothy A. Gonsalves, a professor and computer scientist, and Priscilla Tapley Gonsalves. She was raised with her younger sister Danica in Ooty, located in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu.
