Kim Se-jeong was born on August 28, 1996, in Gimje, North Jeolla Province. However, she moved to Anyang, Gyeonggi and resided with her mother and older brother in her aunt’s home.

When she was young, her parents separated, and her mother raised her and her brother alone. Kim mentioned that she did not communicate with her father until her third year of middle school.

During her school years, she was active in track and field competitions in elementary and middle school, and she also participated in her high school’s Theatre Club. After participating in a competition with a ratio of 3,000 to 1, Kim passed Jellyfish Entertainment’s auditions and became a trainee. At the age of 16, Kim Se-jeong participated in the second season of the competition TV show K-pop Star 2 in 2012.
