Soulja Boy Cotroversies:
In June 2008, on DJ Cisco’s Urban Legend mixtape, legendary rapper Ice-T told Way to “eat a dick” and criticized Soulja Boy for “killing hip-hop” and his song “Crank That” for being “garbage” compared to the works of other hip-hop artists such as Rakim, Das EFX, Big Daddy Kane and Ice Cube.
The two then traded videos back and forth over the Internet. Kanye West defended Soulja Boy by arguing that the younger artist created a new, original work for hip-hop. The feud was parodied in a 2010 episode of The Boondocks.
On December 30, 2008, Soulja Boy was robbed and beaten in his home. The first reports from the scene said that the robbers were six masked men with AK-47s. However, the day after the incident, a video surfaced on the internet of two masked men claiming sole credit for the crime. In January 2009, Soulja Boy described the night to MTV News.
Soulja Boy said came home very late at night after an album release party and was recording songs with friends when the robbers entered his home with their guns pointed at them. He claimed the robbers kicked in the door and pointed an AK-47 at his friend’s head.
On the night of March 22, 2011, Way’s younger brother, Deion Jenkins, was killed in a car crash.
In 2020, Soulja Boy had all of his face tattoos removed so that he could transition into roles in film and television. He got his first face tattoo when he was 16, despite his mother’s disapproval. He’s been thinking about having them removed since 2016.
Soulja Boy doesn’t want to be typecast as a gangster or drug dealer in acting roles and feels he would be if he kept them.
Back in early February 2009, Soulja Boy challenged rapper Bow Wow to a race in their expensive sports cars. Both rappers drove Lamborghinis at the time.
To throw fuel on the fire of their controversy, Soulja Boy claimed Bow Wow’s car was rented. Bow Wow proved he owned his car and a Twitter feud around the issue arose.
Within a matter of days, both rappers sent diss songs to each other. Soulja Boy sent Bow Wow “F*ck Bow Wow.”
Bow Wow sent Soulja Boy “What I Think About You.” Both rappers eventually settled their difference and in 2016, released a collaborative mixtape called “Ignorant Shit.”
In mid-April 2013, Soulja Boy took to Facebook to issue several death threats to rapper Chief Keef.
Soulja Boy posted Keef’s phone number and asked fans to call Keef and let him know Soulja Boy was coming for him and he was armed with a gun. Soulja Boy kept posting and eventually Keef told him he was in London.
Soulja Boy claimed that his social media accounts and email were hacked and he had not sent any of those messages. The two have since resolved their differences.
Soulja Boy U.S. Armed Forces:
In September 2011, Soulja Boy released the song “Let’s Be Real”. One of the lines of the song is: “Fuck the FBI and fuck all the army troops / Fighting for what? Bitch, be your own man / I’ll be flying through the clouds with green like I’m Peter Pan.” After the song was released, Soulja Boy was criticized by military members and their families, especially in regard to the timing in relation to the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Soulja Boy apologized, “When I expressed my frustration with the U.S. Army, not only did my words come out wrong, I was wrong to even speak them.” Representatives for Soulja Boy indicated that the song had been pulled from his upcoming album, Promise, and would not be available for sale. They were also attempting to remove the video from the internet
Soulja Boy Chris brown controversy:
On January 3, 2017, Soulja Boy was entangled in a debacle with singer Chris Brown. The feud eventually started after Soulja Boy intimidated Brown’s former girlfriend, model Karrueche Tran, when Way liked a photo that involved the model, herself.
The two started to exchange Instagram videos towards each other in a matter of minutes, for example: Chris Brown accusing Way of “snitching” or Soulja Boy poking fun of Brown’s daughter and his infamous incident with singer Rihanna in 2009.
The next day, Soulja Boy apologized to Brown and fans about the event and wished to collaborate with Brown
Soulja Boy Atari ownership controversy:
On August 18, 2021, Soulja Boy claimed during an Instagram Live stream that he had gained ownership of the video game company Atari, saying “I am now the owner of Atari. I own the video game company Atari,” and alleged that he had been given control of the company after they had been impressed with his SouljaGame console.
The following day, Atari’s official Twitter account made a post indirectly referencing and refuting Way’s claim of ownership, saying “We know that CEO of Atari is a dream job, but that honor belongs to Wade Rosen.”
Soulja Boy Legal Issues:
On October 7, 2009, Soulja Boy was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia, on one count of obstruction, a misdemeanor, for running from police when Soulja Boy had been ordered to stop while filming a video in an abandoned house. Soulja Boy was released on a $550 bond.
Soulja Boy Interesting facts:
‘Crank That’ is featured in a video game.
It’s no secret that ‘Crank That (Soulja Boy)’ became a cultural phenomenon when it was released in 2007. Not only was it one of the featured song levels on Xbox 360’s ‘Dance Central,’ but it’s also featured on in the ‘World of Warcraft.’
He’s admitted to packing heat.
After Soulja Boy was robbed in December 2008, the rapper wanted to make sure that he and his friends were safe. So aside from amping up security at his home, he revealed that he got a gun. He told PopEater, “I keep a pistol in every room now. You know, my bodyguards stay strapped now, you know what I’m saying?”
Soulja Boy takes some huge risks.
During Super Bowl XLVII, the odds of who would win were split — as they usually are. However, for Soulja Boy, he was pretty confident about betting $200,000 on the Baltimore Ravens. While they did beat the San Francisco 49ers, his instincts about this bet were a little uncommon.
According to TMZ, Soulja only betted on the Ravens because that is the team he plays with in ‘Madden NFL 13.’
Chris Brown and Soulja Boy almost collaborated.
When Soulja Boy was in the studio to record, ‘Kiss Me Thru The Phone,’ he was set on recruiting Chris Brown to help him out on the hook. Unfortunately, the ‘As Your Friend’ singer turned down the offer. After trying to do it on his own (with a little Auto-Tune help), Soulja Boy asked his friend Sammie to get on the mic and that’s what ended up as the final recording.
Soulja Boy’s ‘Kiss Me Thru The Phone’ actually included a real phone number.
When Soulja Boy was writing 2008’s ‘Kiss Me Thru The Phone,’ he didn’t realize that the phone number he says in the beginning of the track would actually be real phone number. When the song released in the U.K. the following year, a couple were slammed with at least 60 calls a day from fans hoping they would be reaching the rapper.
